Independent hospitality has arguably been the hardest hit across our sector, including indie restaurants, street food/mobile caterers, wedding & function caterers, independent cafes, restaurants and bars. With half of the sector reliant on outdoor events such as festivals and everyone working to reduce capacities, many have not worked profitably since Autumn 2019.
A lack of clarity and confidence about reopening fully in time for the summer season is causing major concern for businesses across the supply chain. For months and months we have been left out of government grants and other financial support measures gifted to so many other sectors. We want to contribute and we want to thrive again, but to do so we will need the help of government; help to trade and enough working capital to get us to the starting line.
We’re calling on the government to support our sector and #EmpowerIndependents
We have until the 3rd of March to convince the government that with their help, the independent food sector can not only survive but flourish. We need your help to get our cause past the line.
Please, sign our survey telling us what your business needs in order to survive the pandemic, support our sector and let’s work together to get the key asks that our industry needs in order to move forward and prosper.
For mobile, street food, festival & event caterers:
Grants based on turnover, not business rates
Alternative opportunities to trade outdoors
Real support for our sector from government
For independent bricks & mortar catering businesses:
To open with the rest of the economy OR be fully supported if we can not re-open at pre-Covid-19 capacities
Continued support with rent, business rates and furlough that is sector specific
VAT at 5%
We have two weeks to convince the government that with their help, the independent food sector can not only survive but flourish – but we need your help.
Now is the time to play your part in the battle. The indie food & drink sector must prevail, but we need everyone to get on board in order to get our voices heard. Remember, individually we are one drop, but together we are an ocean. Join us in creating a tidal wave of attention for our great sector that the government will be hard pressed to ignore.
