MorMor crowned champions at Northern heats of British Street Food Awards

by Sophie Haigh | Read Time: 3 Minutes | Jul 08, 2019

NCASS member, MorMor came out on top at the Northern heats of the British Street Food Awards, earning themselves a place in the London final and a potential spot in the European finals in Malmo.

Purveyors of contemporary Middle Eastern, North African and Mediterranean street food, MorMor wowed judges with their Shawarma, beating off fierce competition in “the mightiest food fight Leeds Dock has ever seen.”

A strong line-up of NCASS members were competing for the Judge’s Choice award, including Shoot the Bull, ArtiSam, Little Red Food Truck, Doh’ Nut, Little Bao Boy and Mexican Pilgrim.

Judges on the day included James Mackenzie from Michelin-starred Inn Pipe and Glass; Larry Budd from the BBC’s Larry and Paul; Ranie Sirah from ESFA-winning Jah Jyot; and BSF’s own Richard Johnson.

Little Red Food Truck narrowly missed out on the top spot after judge Richard named it his “winner so far,” prior to sampling MorMor’s Middle Eastern delicacy. Shoot the Bull walked away with the People’s Choice Award, scooping just one vote more than ArtiSam, who were commended for their “sizeable arancini” and “provenance of local cheeses.”

MorMor will now go up against 16 other street food traders in the finals on 13th September at London’s Hawker House, supported by Hellman’s. For one weekend only, the public will get to try Britain’s best street food all in one place before voting for their winner, who will go on to represent Britain in the European finals in Sweden.
