FSA will continue to tackle allergens in 2020

Charlotte Anderson   |   21st January 2020   |   1 minute read

This year, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) will continue to prioritise communications around the provision of accurate allergen information for consumers living with food allergy. They have pledged to do so by building on the learnings from our award-winning ‘Easy to ASK’ allergens campaign in 2018/19.

We will be aiming to communicate with food businesses (FBOs) in March to encourage them to always answer accurately when asked for information on allergens. The campaign will particularly focus on owner/managers and front of house staff (a significant proportion of whom are young themselves) in fast-paced serving environments.

We will provide guidance and support so that FBOs can address issues with compliance and train/remind staff on the correct allergen information processes to follow. In the summer, we are hoping to target young people with food allergies, focusing on 16-20-year-olds and encouraging them to always ask about allergens. “Our ambition is for the UK to become the best place in the world for people living with food hypersensitivities.” - Heather Hancock, Chair of the FSA Board
