The Dockyard Social is set to open new Glasgow food market to offer opportunities to traders, homeless people and the unemployed.

"A street food market with community at its heart. Eat well. Drink well. Do good."

On 30th November 2017, The Dockyard Social will open its newest street food market at 95-107 Haugh Road, a stone’s throw from the main Finnieston strip on Argyle Street in Glasgow’s West End.

Not only will this warehouse-based market offer opportunities to eleven carefully-selected mobile caterers at a time, but it also aims to change the lives of as many of the local homeless and unemployed people as possible.

As well as a buzzing street food market, the organisers of The Dockyard Social hope to establish an employability service to support those who need help finding work. The program will provide training, work experience, career support and job matching.

While the food market will start life as a four day long pop-up, its organisers hope that it will become a permanent fixture, thanks to the authentic and delicious global foods on offer at affordable prices (all dishes will be sold for just £5!) and in such a cool industrial setting.

What’s more, the organisers will create The Dockyard Social School on the same site; a system that will allow the organisers to support various causes and initiatives UK-wide and to encourage local talent.

Organiser Kyle Steel said, “Whether you’re a brand new food business finding your feet, or have fallen on hard times, we want to build a facility to help equip you for the road ahead. We’re giving back to Glasgow with our own training and development school to help get Glasgow’s most disadvantages people launched into an exciting and growing industry.”

Kyle hopes that the project will “offer a dynamic addition to the inspiring food scene here in Glasgow... To reduce unemployment and help those in need as well as having a platform for incredible food traders.”

Tickets for the market’s inaugural event are on sale now, priced at £5 which includes a cocktail, beer or wine on arrival. Doors open from Thursday November 30th to Sunday 3rd December.
