WOMAD, 2017

The World's Festival

On the 29th and 30th July, NCASS headed to Charlton Park in Wiltshire for one of the biggest events on the UK’s festival calendar, WOMAD festival. The food offering at WOMAD is notoriously good and this year was no different; in fact, such was the quality and variety of the food on offer, that this year’s event will go down as a contender for the best WOMAD to date.

NCASS Awards

As per the NCASS / WOMAD tradition, Director Mark Laurie headed to the festival in order to help organise the NCASS awards for best main dish and best snack, as well as to hand out the award for the much-coveted people’s choice award. This year, the competition was judged by Nathan Eades, the Head Chef at Birmingham’s renowned Michelin star restaurant, Simpsons.

Nathan, coined one of “the great British chefs,” was astounded at the quality of food on offer at the event and was particularly enamoured with NCASS members, Philippine Village and their exquisite, homemade soy sauce and chilli oil.

After much deliberation, the 2017 winners were as follows: Madras Café and Exotic Tagine came in joint first place for the People’s Choice Award Philippine Village won the award for Best Main Dish Ravi Ollie took home the award for Best Snack!

All winners won £500 (split in half for People’s Choice winners) as well as one year’s NCASS membership. What is evident now more than ever, is the astonishing quality of festival catering here in the UK; as NCASS Director Mark Laurie said: “Any previous gap in quality is now closing which is great news for the entire industry.”
