Registered does not mean qualified for every job

You must check that the engineer’s current qualifications cover the gas type and appliance involved—for example, LPG and commercial mobile catering equipment.

Before Work Begins

Make These Three Checks

Anyone appointing an engineer is responsible for checking that the person is registered and suitably qualified for the work.

Find Them on the Register

Search the official register using the business name, registration number, telephone number, engineer’s name or ID number.

Check the Gas Type

Confirm that their qualifications cover the supply involved in your business: natural gas or LPG.

Check the Equipment

Make sure they are qualified for the specific commercial appliance or installation they will inspect, install, service or repair.

Check Their Qualifications

Don’t Rely on the Badge Alone

A Gas Safe ID card confirms identity and shows the areas of work the engineer is currently qualified to carry out. Ask to see the card and check the details against the online register.

✓  Check the photograph and licence number.
✓  Check the expiry date.
✓  Check the qualifications on the reverse.
✓  For LPG work, confirm LPG and the correct appliance category are listed.
