British Street Food Finalists on Saturday Kitchen

British street food finalists on saturday kitchen

NCASS members and finalists in the British Street Food Awards, including Greidy’s Wings and Strips, Bao Selecta, OSAKA Local, Makasih Street Food and Pabellon Venezuelan Food featured on Saturday Kitchen last weekend to cook for host Matt Tebbutt and guests.

The awards were started 10 years ago and to celebrate, the organisers have taken a look back at where it all started:

The Finals, hosted by Blue Collar Street Food at the end of the month, it’s a great time to look back on how far we’ve come. We started the Awards 10 years ago. The prize was a stick blender and we struggled to fill one car park with like-minded traders. But @NCASS (Nationwide Caterers Association) were there – legitimising what we were doing. And the people really loved street food’s irreverent attitude to ingredients as well as the fresh approach to presentation – serving food out of inspirational vans, trucks and trailers. We now run the biggest street food competition in the world.

In the beginning we recruited the best traders from KERB – and hosted the best events with Street Feast. But as the street food revolution grew (that’s a plug for the seminal book on the movement by BSFA founder Richard Johnson) so did our network of amazing new ways to eat out. Our partners at Digbeth Dining ClubGRUBFoodParkthe pittCanteenStreetFeastCardiffDEPOTStreet Food Warehouse Bustler Street Food Market – the list goes on.

At Food Mutiny we’ve gone on to launch the European Street Food Awards – and once the virus is under control we’ll launch the USA Street Food Awards. We’ll also unveil plans for our authentic street food hall in 2021. We’ll grow our work with SumUp – and make our contactless events as safe as possible. Saturday Kitchen was the culmination of 10 years hard work. Well done OSAKA LOCAL Bao Selecta @Pabellon Venezuelan Food Greidys wings and strips and Makasih Street Food – but well done to everyone else in hospitality who is trying their best to share a little bit of their heart and soul with the world beyond their chopping board. We all really need that right now….
