What are the latest rules for Northern Ireland?

The rules in Northern Ireland remain the same as of 17th December, however, health officials have proposed a six-week lockdown in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19.

It is speculated that the lockdown could come into force on 28th December, with details expected to be outlined later this week.

As of 17.12.20, the rules in Northern Ireland are as follows:

  1. Households still cannot mix indoors in private homes, except for exemptions including bubbles and childcare
  2. No more than six people from two households can gather in a private garden (children under 12 are exempt)
  3. A maximum of 15 people can gather outside, unless for an organised, risk-assessed event
  4. Hotels, libraries, visitor attractions and non-essential shops can re-open. Gyms can open for individual or one-to-one training.
  5. Restaurants, cafes, and pubs serve food can re-open and must close by 23:00
  6. Religious buildings can re-open and the 25-person limit on weddings and funerals is lifted, with maximum capacity based on building size
  7. Up to 500 spectators can attend sporting events
