Breaking News for wet led pubs, bars & mobile caterers in tier 3

With the news of restrictions for hospitality in tier 3, we knew that there was scope for the mobile catering industry to support those businesses without a food offering that may be forced to close; primarily pubs and bars.

Being part of the Hospitality taskforce means that we consult with the Government on a weekly basis; highlighting industry issues, voicing your concerns and identifying possible solutions. Since the new rules were announced for tier 3, we have been pushing for caterers to be able to work with wet-led pubs and bars that would otherwise be forced to close.

We have just had confirmation from the C-19 taskforce, part of the cabinet office that:

• Wet led pubs or bars can subcontract their meal offering to a caterer  – mobile or otherwise in order to provide a substantial meal
• Caterers can also operate as a take way from these premises
• Importantly, the pub or bar must take responsibility for the payments of both food & drink

This applies to all tiers but crucially, it will allow wet led pubs & bars to remain open ‘as restaurants’ where previously tier 3 meant they would have to close.  

We are awaiting the written guidance on this and confirmation that additional licences will not be required due to the fact that a trader will be operating as a contractor.
