The Prime Minister announced this week that Wales will be going into full lockdown from 28th December following a relaxation of rules between 23rd-27th December.
The First Minister of Wales spoke of a “record number of Welsh patients being treated in hospital,” and reiterated the seriousness of the rising rates in the country.
What are the rules?
- All non-essential shops will close from the end of trading on Christmas Eve
- Close-contact services, like hair salons and nail bars, as well as leisure and fitness centres, will also have to shut before Christmas
- All pubs, restaurants and cafes will close from 18:00 GMT on Christmas Day onwards
The current rules in Wales are:
- Two households can form a bubble and meet in their own homes
- Up to 15 people can meet for organised activities indoors, rising to 30 outdoors
- Cinemas, bowling alleys, bingo halls, museums and galleries must shut
- Travel throughout Wales is permitted, and non-essential travel is allowed between Wales and tier one and two areas in England, and level one and two areas in Scotland
- Restaurants and cafes cannot serve alcohol and must close at 18:00 GMT
- Takeaways of food or non-alcoholic drinks are allowed after that time
People with whom you don’t live cannot enter your home socially, unless you are in an extended household (bubble) with them. Tradespeople can enter your home to carry out work.
