Gas Safety Week 2021

11 years of #GSW

Gas Safety Week 2021 is upon us, running from 13th-19th September, in a bid to encourage home and business owners to ensure their gas set-ups and appliances are safe. Now in its eleventh year, the campaign is of vital importance in our industry, with LPG fuelling many outdoor catering businesses.

As a result of GSW21, we’re taking the opportunity to encourage our members with gas-set ups, to review their units and processes in order to ensure compliance and safety. If you need a refresher on the regulations and your responsibilities, then simply take a few minutes to work through our Gas Safety Checklist.

However, if you’ve recently changed your set-up and are new to using LPG, or perhaps there’s a newly appointed manager or supervisor in your team; our Gas Safety Course jointly developed by NCASS and Proactive Gas Safety (PGS), is an accredited, concise and useful source of information which is free to members*

Due Diligence

If you’re unsure when your gas set-up was last inspected, or you’ve recently bought new gas equipment, then now is a good time to review section 7c of your Due Diligence system (equipment records.) If it has been between 6-12 months or more since your gas equipment was inspected, by a registered, Gas Safe engineer, then you should book an inspection as soon as possible.

NCASS recommended engineers have a wealth of experience in working with mobile caterers and are all COMCAT qualified. To find a local, NCASS approved engineer, simply login to your Membership Area

Is your equipment safe?

In recent years, authorities have taken a much greater interest in gas safety in the catering sector; with several gas explosions having occurred in recent years on both gazebo and trailer setups, resulting in personal injury and severe damage to property and equipment.

Developed in partnership with leading gas equipment experts, Hamilton Gas Product, the GAS SAFE gas rig is a unique, innovative gas distribution system designed to enable you to safely set up and break down your mobile gas rig yourself in minutes, and can accommodate catering businesses of any size. It comes with a foldable stand and safety restraining straps that can accommodate 13kg, 19kg and 47kg cylinders and its quick-click fit connections and steel over braided hoses, mean that you can connect all of your appliances safely without the use of tools.

The system can be supplied with a single regulator for use with one cylinder or alternatively, can be supplied with manual or automatic changeover valves for use with multiple cylinders. All of the regulators are fitted with a unique overpressure shut-off safety protection with a user reset button for complete safety and are also supplied with engineers’ gas test points.

This is truly a revolution in gas safety for the mobile catering industry and will take away the worry and let you rest easy and operate safely, whilst also helping you to meet your Health and Safety and Gas Safety obligations.
