Member Spotlight – Tita’s Coffee

What’s the story behind Tita’s and what inspired you to launch your own business?

In 2022 I lost my Tita Liza (Aunt in Tagalog). I was inspired by her love for coffee and cafe culture around the world, and to keep her memory alive, I opened this coffee van for her. Our values are based around Family and Connection. We foster a familial environment where our customers’ are served exceptional coffee with warm conversations creating memorable and meaningful experiences.

What were the biggest hurdles when starting out?

My first hurdle was finding a location. I took a big risk and purchased the van before even finding a space to trade! I wanted to be local and in East London where my Tita lived and raised us. It was two months before my launch date, March 2025, I only just signed up for a spot in Weaversfields, Bethnal Green!

I’m almost approaching a year in trade, and the biggest hurdle has been the weather.

When opening the van, I didn’t consider the impact the ever changing British weather could have for footfall and sales. Staying motivated during the ‘bad weather’ is still something I admittedly struggle with!

What must I try from your menu?

Our new House Blend coffee, Brazil x The Philippines. It’s a stunning blend of chocolate and citrus flavours. This blend feels like a visit to my Tita’s kitchen.

Oh … and Ube Latte or Matcha is one of the most popular drinks! Ube is a Purple Yam from The Philippines which offers a sweet vanilla, nutty flavour profile. This season, my new Maple Spice Chai has been keeping everyone warm!

What do you love about being an independent business?

I love being part of a community with independent businesses. Being independent has pathed a way to meet so many people where we all learn from each other.

What do you hope the future holds for the business?

I’m hoping to grow Tita’s and hold more collaborations with various communities. At some point would love to get some merch in, and be inside!

What’s your motto?

My Tita was my other mother, the one with all the wisdom. Her motto was to remain positive in adversity, and be kind to everyone as well as yourself.

What 3 ingredients could you not go without?

Coffee, Matcha, and Rice. Filipinos eat anything with rice!

What’s your go-to coffee order?

Flat White with dairy milk, a classic double shot of espresso with 4oz of steamed milk.

What would your advice be to start-ups?

Your marketing is just as important as your food product. Utilise your creativity to get yourself out there!

Why did you join NCASS?

I’m very honest about my inexperience in hospitality, and NCASS supported me throughout my ignorance of this industry. They helped me navigate the process of launching Tita’s and all the important admin I need to complete and keep on top of, with ease. Without NCASS, I would feel completely lost!

Favourite independents to relax at when you have day off?

Mexican Seoul, Bad Boy Pizza, and Funky Cellar for wine.

Sum up Tita’s in 3 words?

Cosy, Nostalgic, and Welcoming.
