One month to go until Natasha’s Law comes into effect

Allergen labelling laws for Pre-Packed for Direct Sale foods (PPDS) – otherwise known as Natasha’s Law – come in to force on the 1st October 2021

To make sure you are ready for this change and to ensure you are managing allergens correctly, you should be asking yourself these 4 key questions right now:

  1. What are you currently doing to manage allergens?
  2. How good are you at training your staff when it comes to allergens?
  3. Do you realise that PPDS applies to both food & drink?
  4. How are you going to manage PPDS in your business?

What is Natasha’s Law?

Natasha’s Law is an amendment to the Food Information Regulations (EU law that the UK Government has retained). It means that food that is partly packed at the same place that it is sold (PPDS) will need to adhere to Natasha’s Law if the packing is done before the customer orders it. It’s an amendment that comes in to force on the 1st of October and it could apply to you.

Remember, if you pre-prep food or drink and package it before it is ordered by your customers then the law will apply to you. If you do qualify as selling PPDS food or drink, you must have a name for the product, provide a list of ingredients and highlight any of the 14 allergens outlined in the Food Information Regulations that are contained in the product.
