Regain control of takeaway with Flipdish

When government regulations forced caterers across the UK to close their doors to dine-in customers, takeaway became the white knight that allowed businesses to keep going in the depths of national lockdown.

The first port of call for three-quarters of restaurant owners who pivoted to takeaway were aggregators like Just Eat, Uber Eats or Deliveroo. But when an order is placed on a food delivery marketplace, restaurants have to pay up to 30% of the total order value in fees to the aggregator.

Flipdish is the company empowering food businesses to make the leap away from expensive marketplaces.

We have already established more than 3000 customers with their own branded website or app generating order revenues in excess of £140m. Some of our customers include leading brands such as Subway, The Regency, Twisted, Super Pizza, Manicomio and Dough.

At Flipdish, we witnessed first-hand the benefits of online from our own customers during lockdown, but we also wanted to understand how other UK restaurant owners felt about their pivot to takeaway. Our survey of 200 restaurant decision makers found that the switch to offer a take-out service saved 70% of business’ revenue and an average of 15 jobs. Over half of these business owners even admitted that they would have closed down permanently without online ordering or takeaway.

But the research demonstrated a more troubling side to takeaway: only 33% of restaurant owners feel aggregators set fair commissions and are financially sustainable.

Marketplaces are failing the hospitality industry, and with 79% of respondents intending to continue with online delivery even as restaurants begin to take dine in covers once more, we believe food businesses shouldn’t have to settle for high fees in order to provide a takeaway service.

Flipdish offers food businesses the opportunity to escape the marketplace rat race and regain control of their own brand and business.

With a website and app, powered by Flipdish, hospitality operators, from restaurant owners to caterers and more, can directly accept online orders without having to list on aggregator platforms, at a much lower cost. Flipdish charges a fraction in commission compared to the aggregators’ eye-watering rates, which allows restaurants to retain more of their revenue to save or invest elsewhere in the business.

But perhaps just as valuable as saving money is being able to take control of branding and customer experience. The Flipdish online ordering system offers branded websites and apps with a seamless customer payment process, the ability to track performance and measure online sales plus automated re-marketing and retention tools to promote customer loyalty.

Hospitality operators can enhance their business performance by promoting deals or changing their menu based on the knowledge of their customers’ purchases and behaviours, ultimately building a stronger, symbiotic relationship with customers.

We invite you to speak to the Flipdish team via our website to sign up to our platform and create your own fully integrated website for your takeaway service. It’s time for restaurant owners and caterers to take back control of their businesses and stop serving their assets to online marketplaces. And with Flipdish, that process can begin.
