The British Street Food Awards are in full swing as the competition moves to Grub Manchester this weekend for the Northern Heat.

Saturday 3rd October
Street Food Cardiff hosted the Welsh Street Food Awards last weekend, with Makasih being honoured with the prestigious title of Welsh Champions after impressing judges with their King Prawn Laksa and Malaysian Fried Chicken Roti. Run by Roger and Ruth Hanson, the business was the winner of the 2019 People’s Choice award and at the beginning of this year, the duo introduced a new van named Eddie into the fold.
They commented:
“It’s been an unbelievable weekend! Two years ago, in our first year of trading, we entered the Welsh Street Food Awards for experience rather than any hope of winning and finished 3rd in both categories.
“Last year we won the People’s Choice and came runners up to the amazing Pink Peppercorn Food Company for the overall champion award. Well today was our day … we are proud to say we are Welsh Street Food Champions! It was a very tough competition – we stood among amazing traders and did not envy the judges job! We want to say a huge thank you to each one of you that came out and supported us with your votes, your kind messages and sharing amazing pictures of our food, we never ever take that for granted … Diolch!
Taiwanese street food specialist Bao Selecta walked away with the People’s Choice award thanks to their hugely popular Vegan Crispy “Beef” Bao, beating off Kapow Ribs and the overall winner Makasih Street Food.
