British Street Food Awards’ aim for zero food waste

We all want to be sustainable. The planet demands it and, increasingly, customers demand it too. As we gear up for the 2021 British Street Food Awards, with our target of zero food waste at the final, we want to hear about how traders are managing to blazing trails in these difficult times. Once again we’re working with the Sustainable Restaurant Association who will be running the application process and compiling our shortlist for Britain’s Most Sustainable trader. And Eighth Plate, who will repurpose any food at the heats. Then together we’ll decide on our winner at the finals of the British Street Food Awards at the Freedom Festival in September.

In 2020 and 2021 any thoughts of sustainability have probably been about sustaining yourself, your family and your livelihood. But, as we get back to work, we’ve all got a chance to make small decisions with big impact. Have you returned to service without those plastic straws? Relaunched with a new sustainable supplier, or with your most veg-led menu yet? Maybe you used lock-down to build an on-the-road-food-composter? For now, start by applying to compete in the Awards before Monday the 17th of May at britishstreetfood.co.uk/2021/04/apply-yourself We will contact all successful applicants and ask you about sustainability…
