Medical Chapter – The wording under the section on assessing the medical cover has been changed to highlight that decisions should be made on a risk assessment basis.

New Directors

Three new directors have been appointed to the EIF Board following a recent election:

  • Rukhsana Bentley, head of marketing at the Nationwide Caterers Association (NCASS)
  • Phoebe Rodwell-Carson, who is responsible for membership services and events at the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF)
  • Mike Dean, Scheme Director at the Events Structures Industry Training Scheme (ESITS)

10 Years of Purple Guide Grants

It is now 10 years since the Forum started to support the UK outdoor events industry with grants and to celebrate the occasion we recently issued a media report highlighting some of the beneficiaries of the £318K that has been awarded to date.   You can read all about it here

Martyn’s Law Gets Passed into Law

Martyn’s Law gained Royal Assent and became law this month (Thursday 3 April). The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 will require public premises, where 200 or more individuals may be present, to be better prepared and have plans in place to keep people safe in the event of an attack.     Larger premises and events, where 800 or more people will be present, will be required to take further steps to reduce their vulnerability to acts of terrorism – such as having CCTV, bag search policies or vehicle checks, where appropriate.   Find out more here

Mental Health At Live Events

A new book ‘Stay Sound & Check Yourself’ has been published to download for free giving a fascinating insight into the mental health challenges faced by those working behind the scenes at live events.    By examining the stresses of the industry, it gives effective suggestions for its prevention and intervention.  You can download a copy free here

Women & Events

NOWIE have published the results of their survey into the challenges that women face in the events industry.   You can obtain a copy of their report here

NOWIE have also recently become members of the Events Industry Forum.

Package Travel Regulations

The Government has launched the final consultation into the review of the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018. Package travel legislation: consultation on proposed amendments – GOV.UK      Alongside the consultation are the responses to the previous call for evidence and the external consumer research. Package travel legislation: updating the framework – GOV.UK

There is also a press release: Cuts to red tape to make great British staycations cheaper – GOV.UK   Anyone wishing to respond is encouraged to use the online portal to do so.  The deadline for responses is 30th June 2025.
