Karapincha to open brand’s first bricks and mortar site in Canary Wharf

Sri Lankan concept, Karapincha, is opening the brand’s first permanent site in Canary Wharf this August.

Owned by identical twin sisters Vasanthini and Dharshini Perumal, who gave up Canary Wharf-based careers in finance in 2018 to follow in the entrepreneurial foodie footsteps of their parents, Karapincha is already regarded as one of the best places for authentic Sri Lankan cuisine in the capital.

The new 350 sq ft site located in Canary Wharf tube station will be a significant next step for the small, family-run business which currently operates as a trader in three of London’s best known food markets: Spitalfieds Market, Elephant & Castle’s Mercato Metropolitano, and Market Place Vauxhall.

Due to open its doors in August, Canary Wharf’s menu will feature many of Karapincha’s signature homemade lunch and dinner dishes including: Kothu Roti; Paratha; Rice boxes and Devilled chicken. However, the all day cafe with seating available for up to 10 covers, will be the first in the group to also offer breakfast which is expected to consist of dishes like French toast, Ceylon tea, and ham and cheese stuffed roti.

“We are thrilled to be taking the next step in Karapincha’s journey at Canary Wharf”, says Vasanthini. “This more permanent site is a significant milestone for us and the location itself carries such personal significance as our former workplace where we spent so many years being the commuters walking through the tube station to whom we will now be serving delicious authentic, homemade Sri Lankan dishes

“Family traditions are central to our business – we serve the dishes that our mother loved to cook – and we hope that, when they walk through our doors, Canary Wharf shoppers, office workers and locals will feel like they are being welcomed into our home.”
