NCASS – Working with the Government to increase opportunities for independents.
Since late March, NCASS has been representing the mobile and independent sector in Government to find ways to support our sector.
We have been working for you throughout – providing insight into concerns in the sector to government, lobbying and working to get the sector trading again as soon as feasible.
From attending weekly Hospitality briefings with Paul Scully, the Minister for Small Businesses, Consumers & Labour Markets, along with other major hospitality businesses, to writing proposals for the sector and lobbying for support and change; our members and the sector’s future is our driving force.
Minister Scully’s department has assisted NCASS members by asking the Local Government Association to ask councils to support mobile businesses, securing our place on the NHS Covid-19 Procurement system and ensuring that we are recognised in parliament.
We have also been able to contribute to the reopening guidance from BEIS, who have been extremely supportive of our sector, as well as contributing to the other ongoing support measures for businesses.
Paul Scully wrote to NCASS yesterday to confirm that recent changes relating to the Town & Country Planning Act are intended to support the return of the mobile catering industry specifically.
NCASS had asked for change to planning that would enable members to be a part of ‘Al Fresco Britain’ the government initiative to move the high street outside.
This latest action of support from the Minister was sent to confirm the intent of the changes and to urge local authorities to enable businesses to trade with more flexibility and that opportunities to trade are supported.
The measures make it easier for businesses and local authorities to set up and run markets and provide food safely from public and private space.
