First up, we speak to Becky Gordon. She’s a Senior Membership Executive at NCASS and has worked on the membership team for 6 years.
What’s the most rewarding part of supporting independent businesses?
Being part of their journey. I’ve been in hospitality since I was 16, so it’s in my blood. Independent businesses care about their products, their customers, and their teams, and you often build lifelong connections. I love helping people turn their dreams into reality, from a family kitchen to multiple locations, and being part of that growth is incredibly fulfilling.
What makes NCASS members different from other food businesses?
It’s their commitment to trading safely and pride in what they do. Membership isn’t mandatory, but choosing to join shows they are investing in themselves, their business, and their future.
What’s a service or benefit you think more members should be using?
I think more members could benefit from using our Business Advisor support from UMi. They provide tailored guidance, practical advice, and industry expertise that can help members navigate challenges, grow their businesses, and avoid costly mistakes. Many members aren’t aware of just how much value this can add, so using this support could make a real difference.
What’s your proudest ‘member win’ moment?
Every time I speak to a member or non-member on the phone feels like a win for me. I love hearing what brought them to NCASS, learning about their journey, and helping ensure their future plans are SMART. Seeing them achieve milestones, such as securing a 5 in their hygiene rating, is incredibly rewarding and every step of their progress feels like a win!
What’s your go-to comfort food?
Currently, tacos! I love cooking and experimenting with new recipes – another reason I enjoy connecting with members, as I often pick up great ideas from them!
What would you name your food truck?
‘Starchtrek’ – I don’t really like Star Trek (more of a Red Dwarf fan!) but it would have to be a potato-based food truck, so the name fits 😉

What are some fun facts about you?
I am a DJ and have residency on Sigil Radio, and I like turtles!
