Wing winner chicken dinner

Wing Fest returned to London Stadium last weekend to crown the best wing slingers in town.

Reputedly the World’s biggest chicken wing festival, traders from all over the country flocked to the capital for the ultimate showdown of dishes.

NCASS members pulled a humdinger on the day, bagging awards for Best Buffalo and Wild Wing. Taking the People’s Choice title for Best Buffalo Wings was Gurt Wings, followed by Wingmans in second place and Mexican Seoul in third. The trio all achieved the same pole positions for Best Wild Wings in the People’s Choice category.

Judges on the day awarded The Sauce, Thunderbird and Mexican Seoul with the award for best wild wings, whilst Mexican Seoul stole the crown for their buffalo wings, alongside The Korean Cowgirl and The Sauce in silver and bronze place.

Ashley Chipchase, founder of Mexican Seoul commented:

“If you told us 18 months ago that we would be taking home a first place trophy from Wing Fest we wouldn’t have believed you…we still don’t believe it! We’re still new to this and can’t quite work out how we’ve managed to get here, but all we can say is that it means a lot!

“Massive thanks to Wing Fest and the whole crew behind it! That was hands down the best Wing Fest to date. The whole place was electric from start to finish, and we can’t thank you guys enough for giving us this opportunity.

“Secondly, big love to all the traders! This community of elite wing slingers is very special and you won’t find anything else like it! Food Review Club described it best… “it’s a family”… and we are honoured to be a part of it. These guys are friendliest, hardest working people you will ever come across and despite it being a competition, it’s all love!

“Finally a big thank you to everyone who tried our wings and supported us this weekend. The feedback we get from you guys makes all the hard work worth it! To take home two Peoples Choice awards is mind blowing and it’s shown us that we might be onto something and maybe it’s time to open up a permanent location!”

Massive shout out also to the Gurt crew who pulled out all the stops to get those wings out despite the brutal heat.”
