Football sustainability initiative launched by Birmingham County FA

The Birmingham County FA’s award winning ‘Save Today, Play Tomorrow’ programme has launched a new sustainability initiative in partnership with BioPak.

The launch comes in just as Earth Day falls, on 22nd April, and is aimed at bringing more sustainable food and drink packaging to football clubs across the West Midlands.

NCASS partner BioPak will work with the FA to offer clubs in the area the exclusive chance to gain a 10% discount on switching all of their cups, burger boxes and other packaging goods to the sustainable packaging alternatives BioPak has available. The aim is to get as many clubs as possible in the region involved in the initiative, and clubs from grassroots up to professional level have been encouraged to participate.

Speaking about the new initiative, Birmingham County FA Sustainability and Insights Manager Richard Lindsay commented: “We know that football has a global reach and fanbase, so it’s important for us at a regional level to lead responsibly on how to enjoy the beautiful game in a way that isn’t so costly for the planet. By collaborating with BioPak, we are helping football clubs by offering them a more sustainable alternative to how they package consumable items, that will lessen their environmental footprint and become a more affordable way for them to introduce products which are friendlier to our planet.”

BioPak UK’s Managing Director Leanne Osborne stated :”We’re proud to be working together with the Birmingham County FA to make our nation’s favourite sport greener, and offer more affordable prices on packaging that is much friendlier for the planet than plastic alternatives. We’ve provided a wide range of packaging to high profile clubs in the past and we look forward to rolling this initiative out more widely.”

Further information on the initiative and how to access the discount can be found at the Birmingham County FA’s website.
